Most owners trip on the same step the first time they try a booking system: they spend a weekend typing every client from the notebook into the app, then discover the system does not fit how the shop actually runs — and the whole weekend is wasted.
Run in parallel first, migrate later
- Pick a tool that supports keeping the notebook and the app side by side, with no forced one-off migration.
- Prefer one you can start without a credit card — once you have paid, sunk cost clouds the judgement.
- Give it a full month and watch whether it genuinely saves time at your real pace.
- Only migrate properly once you are sure a mistake cannot lose client information.
Know where "free" ends
Three questions decide whether you get pushed into a price rise a year from now: does it need a card, is there a usage cap, and what happens to the price as the business grows?
What to enter in the first month
Do not enter your history. Enter only bookings from today forward, and keep writing in the notebook as well. After a month you have two parallel records you can compare directly: which one is faster to search, and which one has fewer mistakes in it. That answer is worth more than any feature list.
